Drake and Fletcher Limited are a family run business supplying Kubota and groundcare equipment throughout Kent and Club Car golf buggies and utility vehicles in Kent, East and West Sussex and Surrey.
Groundcare Division
The actual date of the founding of an engineering shop in the Broadway, Maidstone is rather obscure but shortly before 1882, the firm of Drake & Muirhead set up one or two machines for the repair of light domestic appliances, specialising in Sewing Machines, Mr Drake working one of the lathes himself.
In 1889 Mr A.J. Fletcher joined the Firm as a junior clerk and in 1890 Mr Drake left the firm for a time to try his fortunes elsewhere, the firm then carrying on in the name of the Kentish Engineering Works.
In 1897 Mr Muirhead left the firm and Mr. A.J. Fletcher acquired his share with a borrowed £500 and took over the business, recalling Mr Drake as partner to manage the works.
Thus it came about that in 1898 the name of the company changed to DRAKE AND FLETCHER.
